NEWCASTLE-raised Christopher Moore likes to set realistic career goals when it comes to performing with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
"I hope I get through the first concert," Moore joked to The Word when asked about his aspirations for 2009.The principal violist, who is featured on the ACO's latest album Classical Destinations II, will travel to the US twice this year to perform as well as tour Australia and work alongside Barry Humphries. His first concert will be with American soprano Dawn Upshaw on January 30 in Canberra. The concert series features Moore performing a solo of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with ACO artistic director Richard Tognetti."I only got the job with the orchestra two years ago so it's great to be performing solo with Richard. It's more than I expected," Moore said.Tognetti celebrates 20 years as leader of the ACO in 2009 in conjunction with the release of the Classical Destinations II CD. The TV series of the same name, which took viewers to European cities where the great composers were inspired to write music and featured the ACO, screened on SBS in November."The cameras recorded us playing for six hours a day, five days straight," Moore said. "It was quite full-on. Usually with concerts you play for two hours then head to the pub for a drink."Moore joined the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2006, but he had sat in wonder at their concerts since he was a child.Moore's mother Patricia is a singer and pianist and a long-time subscriber to ACO concerts in Newcastle. His parents live at Belmont North and they were the first to sit in the audience when Moore performed with the ACO in Newcastle on August 28.Moore continues to play in Newcastle about four times a year with the ACO and his career highlights include performing with rock group KISS in Melbourne while he was with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2004.
